bijan sabet: Getting promoted too quickly
Found this blog while looking at users who share the same tumblr theme as me, followed immediately…. I once found myself as the employee getting promoted too quickly without being prepared to lead. While I was certainly running circles around the tasks that were given to me, I wasn’t ready to lead a team as a manager. I ended up ostracizing some of my team members and ultimately asked to be moved from the leadership role. I learned a lot…especially that being a skilled independent means nothing when it comes to leading a team. I still find myself micromanaging all the time. Our team calls me out on it constantly. “He’s not scaling, it’s time to find a replacement”.
I’ve heard that line from too many CEOs about someone on their management team.
In a hyper growth company, those two sentences can be just a year or two apart.
